Landing that First Board Position

ALLRISE DC invites you to join us and the American Bankers Association for a program, "Landing That First Board Position".  ALLRISE DC last hosted a program on this topic four years ago and our supporters have been asking us to host another one ever since.  We are pleased to bring you an expert panel with diverse experience and perspectives on navigating the challenges of becoming a corporate board member. Our esteemed speakers for this moderated panel discussion are:

  • Lori Bettinger, Co-President of Alliance Partners, President of BancAlliance and board member of Bank on Women. Lori will discuss Bank on Women's work to develop and promote women leaders in order to increase the number of women on community bank boards.  

  • Timothy Holt, Jr., a partner at the executive search, corporate culture and leadership consulting services firm of Heidrick & Struggles with a focus on board and C-Suite searches.  Tim will share his interesting experience working with the FDIC to find individuals to join bridge bank boards.  

  • Poorani Jeyasekar formerly with Klaros and an active volunteer with the Leadership Foundry, an organization founded by Women in Technology that trains women executives for corporate board positions. Among other things, Poorani will talk about the benefits of her volunteer experience. 

We are excited that Naomi Camper, Chief Policy Officer at the ABA, will deliver opening remarks.  

The panel discussion will be immediately followed by a reception.  As with all of our programs, this is open to financial services professionals from government, industry, law firms, trade associations and consulting firms and is intended to comply with the reception exception to the congressional gift rules and the de minimis exception under the federal banking agencies’ ethics rules.

The Future of DEI

Join ALLRISE DC and Arnold & Porter for an in-person panel discussion on the Future of DEI. Our panelists will explore the implications for the financial services sector of the July Supreme Court decision* striking down the use of race as a factor in college admissions. Since the decision, diversity, equity, and inclusion programs beyond universities have been the targets of legal challenges and legislation. We look forward to a lively discussion among our panelists: Josh Alloy and Elisabeth Theodore of Arnold & Porter, Michael Briggs of the Mortgage Bankers Association, Naomi Mercer of the American Bankers Association, and Nikita Pearson of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Senator Christopher Dodd, senior counsel with Arnold & Porter, will provide opening remarks.  

We hope you will join us for a reception immediately following the panel.  As with all of our programs, this is open to financial services professionals from government, industry, law firms, trade associations, and consulting firms and is intended to comply with the reception exception to the congressional gift rules and the de minimis exception under the federal banking agencies’ ethics rules.

Join ALLRISE DC for a new installment of our Women of Influence (WOI) series with Diana Farrell, an enterprising thought leader in domestic and global economics and financial services policy with wide-ranging experience in the private and public sectors. Diana is an independent director and trustee of various prominent organizations, including eBay and the Urban Institute. She was the founding President of JPMorgan Chase Institute, where she created a legacy of producing and publishing insightful analyses to address global economic challenges based on the bank’s extensive transaction data. Diana led the Institute in producing groundbreaking work analyzing the impact of Covid-19 on families, communities and small businesses. In addition to founding the McKinsey Center for Government and serving as Global Head of McKinsey Global Institute, Diana was Deputy Director of the National Economic Council and Deputy Assistant to President Obama on Economic Policy.

Join ALLRISE DC for the next installment in our series, Women of Influence (WOI), with Laurie Schaffer, an accomplished government policy maker who, throughout her career, has tackled some of the most significant issues facing our industry.  Laurie has decades of experience at senior levels of government including currently serving as Principal Deputy General Counsel at the Department of the Treasury, at the Federal Reserve Board where she was Deputy General Counsel and again at Treasury, from 2008-11, serving as Assistant General Counsel for Banking and Finance, where she played a critical role in the Administration’s emergency response to the 2008 financial crisis and in the development of the Dodd Frank Act.  Earlier in her career, Laurie served as Deputy Chief of Staff at the House Financial Services Committee where she was instrumental in the 1999 passage of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.  Laurie has also held significant positions in the private sector, including serving as General Counsel at Charles Schwab Bank.

Currently, Anna serves as Senior Associate Director at the Federal Reserve Board where she is responsible for consumer and community development research and programs. Prior to joining the Federal Reserve Board, Anna was Vice President of Programs for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, a non-profit providing leadership development programs to emerging Latinx leaders. She has also served as Director of Community and Multicultural Lending at Fannie Mae and as Deputy Comptroller for Community Affairs at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Anna is the founder of Executive Horizons LLC, a consulting and leadership coaching business. In response to the racial justice movement and the pandemic, Anna and her husband, Eric Boyd, founded a non-profit organization, FairWays to Leadership. Its mission is to teach golf to college and university students from underrepresented groups as a means to access business opportunities and further their careers. She enjoys poetry, dance, and art.

Mary has had an interesting and varied career and a long and deep commitment to the city of Baltimore. Last year, amidst the pandemic, Mary ran for Mayor of Baltimore. She is currently Interim Senior Vice President, Finance and Administration of Johns Hopkins University. Mary also serves as a senior fellow at the Johns Hopkins University 21st Century Cities Initiative and as a board member of the Baltimore Neighborhood Impact Investment Fund. Mary is a director on the boards of Silicon Valley Bank and The Jeffrey Company and a trustee of Cornell University and The Urban Institute. Previously, Mary spent 26 years in the investment management industry with Baltimore’s T. Rowe Price.
